Why Marketing Matters ?
Published: 1/10/2025
Marketing is an umbrella term for all activities that are related to conveying any information about the product/service so that it generates the interest or a motivation to buy.
Now why does one need to spend on marketing when I can just tell them, “Hey! This product is a great buy, the best in its class, and costs just X.” The answer is that people in most cases do not exactly know what to get to satisfy the need at hand; instead, they buy solutions that fulfil the need they are looking to serve.
- A great example that convinced me about marketing is from my own domain—website development.
- A simple single-page website costs 5k-10k rs in India.
- A simple, pretty website will cost about 20k rs.
- A simple, pretty unique website that sets you apart from the rest of your competitors—40k-50k rs
- A simple, pretty website that helps you sell products/services. - 80k rs
- A simple, pretty website that gets you that investment - 1L - 2L rs
In all of the above scenarios, you are selling a simple, single-page website, but what makes a difference in the cost being charged is what that single-page website does for you. It just helps me with a digital presence—won’t pay more than 10k; it makes me stand out from my competitor—can pay up to 50k; it helps me to sell stuff online—okay, 80k is good enough; it helps me get that investment in my company—the 1L-2L is an investment for me!
So, answering the burning question: Why does marketing matter?
Marketing matters because it helps to convince your customers to buy what you are selling, charge more for the same product, and create an image in the mind of people without even them using it once (branding). It is a prerequisite to the next step, which is sales, and thus holds importance in the buying decisions of the customer.
A strong marketing strategy will help you to sell more, charge more, and create a strong image in the minds of your customers about you.
